kirbic > The Veil nebula, a very difficult visual and photographic object. The "original" size shows detail in the upper and lower loops of the nebula. Four stacked exposures with the Canon 10D and 70-200 2.8L

kirbic > M31, the great galaxy in Andromeda. Canon 10D, 70-200/2.8 @ 200mm and f/3.2, four exposures of 2 minutes each, plus dark frames.
kirbic > The summer Milky Way, looking south at the Yanna research Station near Madison, WI. Four "piggyback" exposures with the Canon 10D and Canon 15mm fisheye lens, at f/2.8. The foreground from each shot has been rotated slightly to reduce the blurring caused by the motion of the "piggyback" mount.
kirbic > This photo was shot on 08-27-2005 with the Canon 10D DSLR and Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens. The camera was "piggybacked" on a 12 inch meade LX200 telescope. It is a single 8-minute exposure.
kirbic > This photo was taken on 09/30/2005 with the Canon 5D DSLR and Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens, at f/2.8. The camera was mounted on an EQ-5 equatorial mount. This is a stack of three exposures, shot in RAW and converted with Adobe Camera RAW 3.2. Combined in Photoshop CS2. This photo is uncroped.

kirbic > The 12" Meade LX200 at the Yanna Research Station near Madison, WI at twilight.
Canon 5D, Canon 24mm f/1.4L, 2.0s @ f/1.4 and ISO 1600.
kirbic > Here it is, the "great red spot" exposition...
Best viewed by looking at the "original" size, note the magenta spot at upper right. This appears to be heating of the 5D's sensor. It's the only spot I've found so far, but have not worked at ISOs over 800 or times over 6 minutes. This particular (RAW) exposure was 3 minutes @ ISO 800 using the Canon 100mm macro.
Exposure was converted in ACR 3.2 with both sharpening and color noise reduction off. Post processing in PS CS2 included only USM (250, 0.2, 3), curves, and resizing.
